The benefits of a transmission tune for a performance driver
Better use of the power band
When the engine has been tuned but the gearbox still shifts at the original factory RPM points, you're constantly being shifted out of the power band before you've made full use of it. A transmission tune matches the shirt points to where the engine makes its best power.
Sharper throttle response
A transmission tune helps the gearbox react immediately and intuitively to what the driver is doing.
Faster shifts
Increasing line pressure and reducing shift time produce crisper gear changes with less power interruption.
Eliminating gear hunting
A tune can eliminate hunting by widening the gap between upshift and downshift points, so the gearbox commits to a gear and stays in it.
Matching the engine tune
When an engine is remapped for more power and torque, a transmission tune ensures the gearbox is applying appropriate clamping pressure and shift logic for the torque being produced, protecting the transmission while allowing it to handle the increased load confidently.
Diff ratio and tyre size correction
When a car’s diff ratio is changed or larger tyres are fitted the result will be incorrect shift points and potentially incorrect speedometer readings. A transmission tune corrects that.
Improved fuel economy in normal driving
A transmission tune can actually improve fuel economy during everyday driving by eliminating unnecessary gear hunting, ensuring torque converter lockup happens efficiently, and keeping the engine in its optimal operating range more consistently.
